The Wright Recipes is a site I use when, on the rare occasion, I actually decide to cook for my boys. :)
Her pictures are beautiful and her Malted Chocolate Mousse came out so good that I wasn’t upset about the ten pounds I gained.
Make sure you check out her site after cooking up her delicious dog biscuits.
Homemade Dog Biscuits
3 cups flour (I’ve tested with whole-wheat, whole-wheat bread & all-purpose)
2 cups rolled oats
4 peeled & smashed garlic cloves (to be on the safe side leaving out the garlic is suggested)
¼ cup brown sugar
¾ cup fat (beef drippings, bacon drippings, butter or oil)
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
¼ cup ice water, more if necessary
- In a food processor, pulse first 4 ingredients until oats are coarsely chopped. Add fat and eggs; pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.* Process, adding a tablespoon of water at a time, until the dough sticks together when pressed.
- Working with a handful of dough at a time (kneading, if necessary, to hold together) on a parchment-lined surface and floured rolling pin, roll dough about 1/4-inch thick. Using a rotary pastry cutter (or pizza cutter), cut cookies into 1-inch squares. Arrange on a baking sheet (they can be very close, as they don’t rise or spread).
- In a preheated 350˚ oven, bake until dry and golden, about 25 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
* If you’ve chosen to use oil (I save my oil after shallow-frying for this sometimes), the mixture won’t resemble coarse crumbs. Just process the flour mixture, oil and eggs until the oil and eggs distribute throughout the mixture, and add water to bring the dough together.
