Hi, I came across your website today and I’m amazed at the diversity of your treats!! I have never made dog treats before, so I will definitely need the guidance of your site! For this recipe, I was wondering if there were any substitutes for the spelt flour? And instead of the apple sauce, could I use fresh apples instead?

Thank you so much Rachel, I’m so glad you found my site. Since they are a drop treat the flour can be substituted to something that works better for you. Fresh apples would work fine, they just need to be pureed because there moisture, along with the banana, is what keeps the treat together. I hope that helps, woof!

Thank you for this wonderful site. I just signed up for your newsletter. Was also wondering about the smelt flour. Would almond flour work? Thanks so much.

Thank you so much Carol. I’ve only worked with almond flour a few times but it should work as a substitute. I would just keep an eye on them as the bake because almond flour can burn a little faster than regular flour. I hope these helps!
