ask the chef :: how long do they last?

Hi,
I was wondering if you could tell me how long the cookies last once baked? They would be stored in a sealed bag, but not refrigerated. Wasn’t sure if only certain cookies can be left at room temp. or not? Basically I want to make some for a charity and so they will be out at room temp, sealed, but I want to put a sticker on them to say how long they are good for, but unsure myself. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Melanie

Thank you for the question Melanie.
The self life of the treats depends on what your using in them. If there’s any meat, cheese, milk, fruit or butter then they should be refrigerated and should keep for 2 to 3 weeks in the fridge.
Treats with out these ingredients (ex. peanut butter) can be kept at room temperature but they need to be as dry as you can get them using a food dehydrator or baking on your ovens lowest temperature for 2 to 3 hours.
With most of the moisture removed a treat can last for up to two weeks at room temperature, but the fridge is best.
Good luck with you charity baking. Woof!
